Notable Dvd Releases This Week 05/01/2007
The Hitcher
I saw this movie this weekend and I was pleasantly surprised. So far im probably in the minority but I think Platinum Dunes has done an excellent job on horror remakes. I really enjoyed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and liked the Amityville Horror, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and now this. While I think the original is a little stronger overall I liked a lot of elements that were in this movie. When Sean Bean was cast as the villain I figured he would do a great job as the iconic role originally portrayed by master villain actor Rutger Hauer. Sean did an excellent job as expected as did the other cast members, hottie Sophia Bush and Zachary Knighton. Just the premise of potentially picking up a crazy dude is a thought everyone considers when we see someone on the side of the road. The original screenwriter had a part in the remake is probably one reason I thought it was successful. Great making of features and a few deleted scenes but nothing extraordinary. While I dont recommend seeing all movies in a theater setting I definitely recommend giving this a try on dvd.
Alpha Dog
This movie had so potential but fell flat on its face in so many ways. This is the Justin Timberlake movie as known to most people. Yes Justin did an ok job. He was great when it came to the silly, playful side but when it came to serious sections he was just ok and you could tell he is a new actor. Overall a great starting role for him. The problem I had with the movie was the lack of tension or lack of caring of what actually happened. I dont know if it was the acting, the weak score or a combination of all of it but when the "deed" was done I didnt really have the emotional reaction I should have had. Im sure it will have its fans but It didnt do it for me
Dream Girls
Didnt get a chance to watch it yet but its got a lot of press and Oscar buzz. Who knows it might be ok. Not my type of movie but im sure ill give it a spin.

Heres Sophia with her full cute on
