Tuesday New Dvd Releases for 07/07/2009
Knowing
Definitely better than what I was expecting but still not that great. I dont know if there were too many hands in the cookie jar or if Alex Proyas has just lost it.
Border Town
The movie was too ambitious for the budget. It was ok for being based on a true story but could've been so much better.
Dead Wood
A few cool scenes and an awesome tree transformation scene but still not very good. Check out Horrorphilia Podcast #1 for a full review.
Horsemen
If you are into serial killer movies then this Platinum Dunes original is probably worth checking out. Just get ready to endure one of the worst acting performances of the year by Ziyi Zhang. Check out full review on Horrorphilia Podcast #3.
One Missed Call 3
I honestly didnt know there was a part 2. I liked the original.

Push
Havent seen it yet but my buddy Borp said it was horrible.

Night Train
Wow i saw this so long ago and its finally getting a proper release. Its kinda like a supernatural version of A Simple Plan but set on a train in the winter. I didnt care for it that much but may be worth checking out for thriller fans out there.

The Unborn
Havent had the time to watch it yet but havent heard that many good things about it. All I know is the chick got a hot ass!

Gran Torino
Im so friggin sick of this movie. I had to watch it about 5 times with different people at various time. Terrible acting but still worth watching. Definitely not Oscar worthy.

Fired Up
By far the funniest comedy Ive seen this year. Ive yet to see The Hangover yet. Definite rental.

The International
I kinda forgot about this movie. I wonder if its any good?

Confessions of a Shopaholic
Not a very good comedy. I was bored to sleep.

Tuesday May 19, 2009 Dvd Releases

Valkyrie
Im a Singer hater so Ill be shocked if this movie is good.

Paul Blart Mall Cop
Im a Kevin James fan and this movie is not good. I cant believe it made so much money.

Fanboys
Speaking of not very good. It could have and should have been so much better. Full review here.

Outlander
I highly enjoyed this but Jamie didnt. Read our 2 guys 1 movie here.

My Bloody Valentine 3d (BluRay also)
Its a generic slasher but the 3D made it pretty cool. The 3d effects are actually suppose to be decent. I didnt try to watch it yet because I didnt have the correct glasses!

Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus

Of course its gonna suck but maybe it could be fun?

Eden Log
The French can do straight up horror, lets see if they can do sci fi horror.

Infected
Never heard of it.

The Devil's Ground
Terrible fucking movie. Full review
here.

Tuesday April 28 Dvd Releases
Martyrs

This movie is often said that it polarizes people's opinion. You either like it or you dont. But I actually fall somewhere in the middle. Maybe my expectations were too high but I ended up slightly disappointed. I can easily see how someone would absolutely love it. I really liked the first half and the second half was a bit of a letdown to me.

Satanic Sluts 3
Never heard of it but it looks pretty cool.

Cargo 200
I havent seen it myself but read a lot of positive things about it.

One Eyed Monster

The trailer looks awesome. Check the post out here.click me.

Bride Wars
This movie is probably even worse than you thought. My eyes are still burning!

JCVD
I cant wait to see this flick. Hopefully the hype doesnt hurt it.

New Releases for Tuesday July 29
Dark City Directors Cut - 15 minutes of extra footage that suppose to make this excellent movie even better!
Doomsday - I love the theatrical cut so maybe this one has more bloody footage.
Lost Boys The Tribe - Read my review from earlier this week.
Never Back Down - Its basically Karate Kid for the new Mma generation. Cheesy but good.
Tai-Chi Master - Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh. Its the awesome Twin Dragons but in widescreen and uncut.
Inglorious Bastards - Old school Fred Williamson that should be awesome.
Hair Extensions: Exte - Definitely not your run of the mill Japanese horror. Worth checking out.

Soul Calibur IV! - Hell yeah the greatest fighting game is back now on next gen systems.

New Releases June 03, 2008
Semi Pro
I know its got a lot of negative reviews but I know there still has to be a few classic Will Ferrell moments in there somewhere. The old spice commercials are funny at least.

The Cry

Ive had this for about a week but never got around to watching it yet. Im sure it probably sucks.

The Evil Woods

Saw this last night and boy was it disappointing. Just an average slasher in the woods movie. It had a great performance by one of the main kids. He was a total dick and I couldnt wait till he was killed.

The Machine Girl

I was really disappointed in this one. The trailer rocked so hard but this movie is pretty much like a Japanese troma movie. The practical effects were over the top and sloppy and it had some shitty cgi. It was a total cash in from the Planet Terror chick except it was not as cool. Still probably worth checking out just dont expect anything amazing.

Meet the Spartans

I think i kinda liked it. I mean most of these parody movies suck especially in comparison to classics like Airplane and the Naked Gun series. If you enjoyed 300 a lot then im sure you will find something to grin at. I liked Sanjaya being kicked into the pit.
The Eye
Another shitty american remake of an original movie that was overrated to begin with. Jessica Alba does a credible job but the movie is just plain boring.

Notable Dvd Releases This Week 05/01/2007
The Hitcher
I saw this movie this weekend and I was pleasantly surprised. So far im probably in the minority but I think Platinum Dunes has done an excellent job on horror remakes. I really enjoyed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and liked the Amityville Horror, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and now this. While I think the original is a little stronger overall I liked a lot of elements that were in this movie. When Sean Bean was cast as the villain I figured he would do a great job as the iconic role originally portrayed by master villain actor Rutger Hauer. Sean did an excellent job as expected as did the other cast members, hottie Sophia Bush and Zachary Knighton. Just the premise of potentially picking up a crazy dude is a thought everyone considers when we see someone on the side of the road. The original screenwriter had a part in the remake is probably one reason I thought it was successful. Great making of features and a few deleted scenes but nothing extraordinary. While I dont recommend seeing all movies in a theater setting I definitely recommend giving this a try on dvd.
Alpha Dog
This movie had so potential but fell flat on its face in so many ways. This is the Justin Timberlake movie as known to most people. Yes Justin did an ok job. He was great when it came to the silly, playful side but when it came to serious sections he was just ok and you could tell he is a new actor. Overall a great starting role for him. The problem I had with the movie was the lack of tension or lack of caring of what actually happened. I dont know if it was the acting, the weak score or a combination of all of it but when the "deed" was done I didnt really have the emotional reaction I should have had. Im sure it will have its fans but It didnt do it for me
Dream Girls
Didnt get a chance to watch it yet but its got a lot of press and Oscar buzz. Who knows it might be ok. Not my type of movie but im sure ill give it a spin.

Heres Sophia with her full cute on

Worthy New Dvd Releases
Week of 03/11/2007 to 03/18/2007

The Holiday
I actually enjoyed this movie quite a bit and my fiance absolutely loved it. Im not a fan of romantic comedies but every once in awhile there is one that catches my attention such as Love Actually did a few years back. This movie starring Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Jack Black was surprisingly funny and yes, romantic. Highly recommended date movie if you are into that.
Casino Royale
Im not a big James Bond fan but ive heard a lot of good things about this movie. I heard they use a lot of the same type of things that make "24" so successful. Anything that modernizes Bond and makes him more Jack Bauer-like gets a thumbs up from me.
Sublime
No its not a documentary about that shitty band but a Std new horror release. Heres info from Amazon.
Genres:
Horror
Tagline: Maybe... if you spend your life worrying... then the only way that your life will have meaning is if what you fear becomes real.
Plot Synopsis: Admitted to Mt. Abaddon Hospital for a routine procedure, George Grieves discovers that his condition is much more serious and complicated than originally expected; and as his own fears begin to manifest around him, he learns that Mt. Abaddon is not a place where people come to get better... it is a place where people come to die.
Sounds cool to me and got a pretty nifty cover to boot!
