Slaughter Night Dvd Review
I heard a lot about this movie last year when it was on the horror film festival circuit under its other hip name Sl8n8. It mainly had good buzz for its gore and throw back to 80's style slasher movie. Fortunately it did live up to my expectations. It is a Belgium Slasher/Demon posession movie that reminded me a lot of Night of the Demons in tone and look.
The story is basically about this girl whose father is killed in a car crash and she goes back to Belgium with her friends to pick up her fathers last manuscript he was writing. Her father used to work in a mine that back in the day used death row criminals, which basically sacrficed them to burn out the excess methane with a torch they carried around. One particularly wicked criminal Andries Martiens was killed there and is now haunting the mine. The kids get trapped in a mine with some other tourists and this where all the fun kicks in. The main chick (Victoria Koblenko) whips out a ouija board and they channel the evil spirit Andries which possesses one of the chicks. Basically it turns the possessed into a strong violent maniac that likes to chop off heads. Luckily the kids also channel the dead father who gives them clues on how to survive.
Its a fun dumb flick with some cool gore and jump scares. One of the few movies that i actually like where the "camera shake" is actually used for good effect without all the choppy editing. The dvd picture is kinda grainy and lower quality but it probably ends up adding to the retro feel it captures so well. Definitely recommended for gore or slasher fans. I give it a solid 7.9 out of 10.

The Drinking Game:
This drinking game is to be played with the Dutch film Slaughter Night and beer. Might be able to be played with Gold Schlager, but that would bumb the difficulty up to a 10.

1 drink – when someone swears in English
1 drink – whenever someone pops a pill
1 drink – whenever a severed head is seen
1 drink – whenever a body without a head is seen
1 drink – every time the planchette of the Ouija board stops on a letter or word
1 drink – every time someone screams out another character’s name
1 drink – for every sepia-toned flashback
The Michael J. Fox Cameraman Challenge: Continuous drinking every time the camera shakes uncontrollably.
