Black Christmas (Xmas) 2006 Dvd Review
This movie is even worse than you've heard. Well not now that you've heard, since you are reading this. I'm starting to even confuse myself now. Much like how i felt last night when I was asking myself why I was actually finishing this movie. It was horrible beyond belief.
The movie starts full force with no character development and starts straight into the killing. I swear when it first started I thought I had missed the first 20 minutes or so. The direction was bad. There was zero tension built up through any of the kill scenes. The cheesy happy music did not help the case. There is a stupid storyline of how the killer was yellow due to a skin disease when he was born. All I could think of was I was watching Yellow Bastards little brother every time it showed him. Speaking of that it showed the bad guy a lot. There was very little jump scares or tension just due to the fact it showed everything up front with no guessing to where he was gonna pop up or kill the victims.
The story is basically about a bunch of sorority chicks that live in an old house that used to belong to a crazy family. The killer escapes from a mental institution and decides to go back to his old house. The chicks are smoking hot but of course there is only one scene where you get to see one of the chicks ass in the shower for a few seconds only. It would have been a perfect opportunity for Lacey Chabert as seen below to show off some of her assets, instead she was relegated to a sit on the couch and complain role. The characters were paper thin, bad dialogue and just plain uninteresting. The movie goes back and forth with flashbacks showing the killer growing up and dealing with his sicko mom. There is one scene with the kid in a rocking chair that shows the sickness that ran in the family which i kinda dug.
The only positive I have to say about it is some of the gore was top notch. The gore could have had a bigger impact with more suspense or jump scares but was still good nonetheless. They threw in a twist with the ending but had little impact due to the crappy movie that preceded it. The director which also wrote the screenplay needs to go back to film making 101 before he makes another attempt at another horror movie. This is the worst of the horror remakes in a long and growing line of bad horror remakes. Do yourself a favor and watch the original or at least look at more pics of Lacey Chabert as seen below instead of wasting your time and mind on this garbage.
