Kumite Dvd half review
When a movie is bad I at least give it the benefit of the doubt and watch it all the way through hoping there is some redeeming values. And if its a martial arts movie I'll at least watch it in anticipation of a bad ass brawl. When i found Kumite at Blockbuster to rent and when i saw the blurb "From the director of Black Mask" I was pumped to see it. I thought the original Black Mask was an underrated movie starring Jet Li with some excellent fight scenes. Now Black Mask 2 was an abomination but the original was at the very least entertaining.
Ill be honest this movie was unwatchable. When it first started I had to check twice to see if I had the right movie in. It was bad soap opera style like you would see in some of the 80's Hong Kong movies. Finally there was one mini fight and it was so poorly shot. The fighting was pathetic, unimaginative and hard to watch. The camera was zoomed in so it was hard to tell the weak action that was going on. After 40 minutes of more melodrama crap I had to turn it off I couldn't take it anymore. It was poorly acted, directed and a boring storyline. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone not even the hardcore martial arts fan.
