3 movies one day what a bum
Underworld Rise of the Lycans
I was looking for a great entertainment film after the disappointing Outlander and this film was just what the DR. ordered. The other 2 films I did not really like especially pt2. This goes back to see how the blood feud started. Since they were in the past there are sword, spears and castles instead of guns and mansions. I think this worked best and made it more authentic. This movie has action and blood at top notch just what I wanted when the vampires and werewolves fight. Victor the leader of the vampires have enslaved werewolves for many years and finally Lucian rises up to take them on. He is in love with Victors daughter Sonja, played by the very hot Rhona Mitra who looks very similar to Kate Beckinsale. Rona is playing a different character so it is good they changed actresses. I was hoping for more shots on her ass like the other 2 movies did Kate but I take what I can get. Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy reprise there roles as Victor and Lucias making for good drama and tension. You can tell these guys have worked together and even though this film should not be taken to serious these guys brought it to the table. A good fun theater movie to enjoy
Death Race
If you read my other blogs you will see I am not a fan of Paul "Worthless Shit" Anderson. SO I was not going to rush out and see this film. I'm reviewing it late cause I just now got it for free so I figure it would be a good time waster. I have the seen the Roger Corman film death race 2000 were the drivers go around the country and run over innocent people and kill each other. I wish he had kept that plot. He moved it to a prison were everything was more controlled. They even had Mario cart style emblems to drive over to power up your car with offense or defense. This movie stole mostly from the twisted metal black video game which I loved. They even brought out a big boss semi to kill 4 of the drivers. It saddens me to say I was entertained. This was made for a commercial audience, not a thinking audience. For that it delivered. The cheesy Hollywood ending complete with a hot chick getting out of a car "in slow motion" almost ruined the movie for me. Luckily it only made 31 million, maybe audiences are starting to get smart to this hack.
Frost/Nixon
I have never been a fan of "Opie" Ron Howard. His movies make money but never tell anything good. When I heard of this movie about a interview I Thought what could be good about it sounds pretty boring. In case you do not know the true story as what happened here it is. When Nixon resigned from the white house he had never admitted guilt to the whitewater scandal and was never brought up on any charges. Pres Ford pardoned him. So the American people were looking for some type of closure, or confession. David Frost a Australian and British talk show host decided to take him on and ask him the important questions. It was the first interview since leaving the white house. By the end of the interview Nixon admitted to his wrongdoing and that the president was above the law. This was what everyone wanted and Frost became famous from it. So this tells the story of a ambitious guy taking on a very powerful, egotistical, and experienced debater. The movie reminds me of a 5 day fight each day the people are reflecting back on how the fight went. This storytelling makes the movie above average and the acting by Frank Langella and Michael Sheen kept me glued to my seat. This is a important part in American history and Opie got it right.
