Cowards Corner
Year end concert review
Since I was so poor this year I was unable to go see all the concerts I wanted to. So I will review the 3 concerts I did see this year.
First I will go over the ones I missed that I wanted to see.
Dragonforce - I have defended these guys on another blog so I wanted to see if there live shows were as horrible as people say.
Iron Maiden - this show they were by themselves no opening acts. I was told my a maiden fan that when there is no first act they
play there newest CD then take a break and return and play there oldies. This would have been the perfect show to see. Bruce
Dickinson voice has to give out eventually I hope to see them before it does.
Masters of Metal - featuring Testament, Judas Priest Motorhead and Heaven and Hell. I'm kinda glad I did not go, I heard testament
only had a 30 min set. I would have like to see Heaven and Hell, those old bastards have to die sometime I hope I get to see them first
Symphony x - they have toured close to my area 2 times the last 2 years and I have been unable to go. I will not let it be a 3rd time
These guys are great and put out bad ass Cd's.

The 3 concerts I attended
Gary Hoey, Nightwish, and Trans Siberian Orchestra
Gary Hoey - I have been a fan of Gary for a long time he is not well known like a Vai or Satch but he in his own right is just as good.
I would describe it as more feel good party guitar. He has his own style that is significant to him. He took care of business and had me
enjoying the whole show. After the gig he hung out with fans taking pics and drinking. out of 1-10 I give it 9 hope to see him soon.

Nightwish - Finland's biggest metal band comes to Austin first time in a few years. They have a change though. the singer Annette had some
big shoes to fill. Former singer Tarja was classic trained and beautiful. I had big hopes for these guys since I had all there Cd's this would
be my first time for them. I was not a big fan of there new CD I thought it was more commercial and not as heavy. The concert was a mix bag.
I wanted it to be good but it really tried hard not to. These guys are talented and great at what they do but the song choices and Annette's
new voice did not do it for me. They did all there commercial songs from the old Cd's and all there slow songs off the new one. They did not do
it for me maybe I had hyped them up to much, I give them a 3 out of 10.

Trans Siberian Orchestra - I saw these guys last year with crap seats and really enjoyed it. This year I was on
the floor with a perfect view. Upon leaving the show I heard someone say I'm not sure how to describe what I just saw, I'll just say
go see it. I can try to break it down. its 3 hour long the first part is a story were a narrator guides you on a journey and introduces a new song
that fits the story they have about 3 different singers that perform with band. the band also plays classic Christmas songs with a metal
edge. then after the story they just jam straight with there own songs and famous classical numbers. They had a 8 piece orchestra,
2 keyboardist. 2 violinist, 3 guitarist 1 bass, 1 drummer. It is heavy, loud, with pyro, and visual effects. I was with 3 newbies and they all
loved it and are planning to go again. I would recommend this show to anyone it is one of the best shows I have ever seen. You must
have floor seats though and to get them you have to buy them like 4-5 months in advance. My rating out of 1-10 a 10.
