Wtf the Ninja Turtle sensei has a horror movie? No silly bastard this movie is about a flesh mutating monster not a damn rat. But seriously this ended up being a pretty cool little monster movie. I really dug the trailer so I was hoping it would be more than just another stdvd horror movie.
The movie is about this headstrong wife (Jill Wagner) and her nerdy husband (Paulo Constanzo) that go on a camping trip. Their tent breaks and they decide to just stay in town at a motel. On their way they stop and pick up this white trash dude (Shea Whigham) and his drugged out girlfriend (Rachel Kerbs) and they get held hostage. While driving they run over a dog thats infected by some splintery things all over it. While changing the tire the w.t. guy gets stung by one of the splinters. Soon they arrive at a gas station and thats where all hell breaks loose. The gas station attendant is also infected and goes crazy trying to kill them. The rest of the movie they are holed up at the station trying to figure out a way to get out.
It is kinda predictable with what happens afterwards but it was still a lot of fun. All the actors were good especially Shea Whigham which was the only good thing about his last movie, South of Heaven. The splinter creature obviously inspired by the thing was still pretty unique and cool to watch. When someone gets infected their bones snap and break which was bad ass and freaky. There is also a arm decapitation scene which is one of my favorite disgusting scenes of the year. I was squirming during that whole sequence. The end is fairly predictable and of course its left open to a sequel. Definitely fun and worth checking out. On a scale of 1-10 I give this a 'freezing your ass off' 7.6 out of 10.
