The Signal Movie Review
Directed by:David Bruckner, Dan Bush, and Jacob Gentry
Starring:Cheri Christian and AJ Bowen
A few months back when I first saw the trailer for the movie I thought it looked pretty cool. I also thought damn it looks like they beat Eli Roth and the Cell adaption to the punch. After the first 25 minutes or so I was grooving to the beat and seriously digging the movie. Then came the second act, while it was unique it turned into more of a black comedy type of tone which I couldnt get into all the way.
The movie is basically about a married woman thats having an affair and her new b/f tells her to meet with him at a train station and they will run away to start a new life the following day. That night when she goes home there is a "signal" thats running on tv thats emitting a weird sound and white lights. Every phone is down and it is also transmitting the same signal. The signal immediately effects half of the population and they go on a crazed murdering spree. The wife narrowly escapes and waits till the morning. When she wakes up half of her apartment tenants are dead in the hallways. She meets up with one of her husbands friends who tied up the husband and tells his story of what occurred that night. She eventually wrecks her car and starts walking to the bus stop. The second act of the movie follows the husband and boyfriend as they go searching for her. The second transmission that occurs makes everyone psychotic in different ways and not just a murderous craze.
I give the movie props for trying to be different but the whole second act crazy antics the people go through was just not entertaining enough. All the hallucinations and just weird behavior was just too over the top. By the third act came I was already taken out of the main thrust of the story and I just wanted it to end. Definitely not everyones cup of tea but im sure some people will love it. There were a few good kills and some good gore but not enough to whole heartedly recommend the movie. I dug the settings and the direction and acting was pretty good for this type of movie. On a scale of 1-10 I give this a 5.2 out of 10.
