Another surprise movie that Ive never heard of before that I highly enjoyed. This is basically a crime, comedy drama with a heavy emphasis on comedy. Very much in the vein of British humor that I love so much. I think a lot of people will be surprised to see Gavin Rossdale (singer of Bush) in a role im sure thats the best thing he's done (excluding Gwen Stefani) since the early Bush days. He plays a dumbass bank robber thats in over his head. Also solid performances by Nick Stahl (Terminator 3), Erica Christensen (Swimfan) looking hot as hell with a dark wig on, and Terry Crews (muscle dude from Balls of Fury) who's making a name for himself recently.
The movie is about this guy, Jinx (Nick Stahl) who's pissed cuz he cant withdraw his 20 bucks from an atm because he only has 20 bucks and its not enough to pay the fees. So he goes to his bank to get his 20 bucks. When he arrives there is a bank robbery in progress and he runs to the vault and gets trapped in their with another woman. The woman (Erica Christensen) is one of the robbers and Jinx is forced to tie her up. With no way out, Jinx has to negotiate with Simon (Gavin Rossdale) over a cellphone to get out. He also contacts the police and is talking with Officer Degepse(Terry Crews) to try and work with the police for their release. Finally he gets a hold of Nick who is the mastermind of the whole robbery and tries to cut a deal with him.
The movie is basically funny conversations over the cell phone with real cell phone issues such as the signal cutting in and out, 3 way conversations and dealing with a dying battery. I know this movie is not for everyone but in a few scenes I was laughing out loud which I hardly ever do at any movie. The scene where Gavin Rossdale pisses off Terry Crews over the phone and to see Terry's reaction was fucking classic. Erica was hot as hell as a brunette and I suggest she dye herself that way from now on out. The main boss, Nick is never shown only heard until the very end of the movie. I knew his voice was familiar but with the echo of the phone I couldnt quite pinpoint it. Once it was finally revealed I should have realized who it was and it made more sense why he was talking in the manner he was. See if you can guess who it is without looking it up.
Overall I really enjoyed it and when its released to dvd in a few months I definitely recommend seeking it out for a watch. The ending was a little predictable but I still thought it was wrapped up nicely. The movie is beautifully paced, well acted, directed and has a few good laughs. All in all on a scale of 1-10 I give this a pissing in a safety deposit box 7.5 out of 10.
Heres the trailer
Heres more of Erica!
