Outpost Movie Review
What a absolutely horrible dvd cover. I dont know who made that but they need to be lined up and kicked square. Luckily the movie wasnt as cheesy the cover. First off it was definitely directed very admirably by first time movie director Steve Barker. I thought his direction and along with the excellent cinematography created a pretty creepy atmosphere througout. The acting was above average and despise its small budget it actually conveyed a sense of high production value throughout.
The story is basically about a businessman over in Easter Europe hires a group of mercenaries to escort him for a few days while he's on a secret mission to recover something for his investors. Out in the middle of the woods lies an underground bunker that was used by the Germans to conduct experiment in WWII on its soldiers. Once the mercenaries arrive they discover some dead bodies and one soldier who is still alive. The businessman finds his machine that he was looking for and all hell breaks loose. The undead ghost soldiers come alive and start attacking the soldiers and picking them off one by one.
Thats pretty much the plot which makes it sound a little cooler than what it actually was. I really liked the story even though it wasnt that original, but the 3rd act falls flat. There were a few good kills and one awesome one with a knife grinding against this guys teeth. The movie was a little slow and overall didnt really make that much sense. For a ghost movie it was better than average but it still lacked a great ending to put it over the top. Even though im not a fan of supernatural horror it kept my interest throughout. With a better script I think the director could be someone to look out for. On a scale of 1-10 I give it a mercenary brain crushing 6.1 out of 10.
