Charlie Bartlett Movie Review
I just didnt get this movie. I heard a lot of good buzz and even comparisons being like a modern day Ferris Buellers Day Off. This movie cant even lick the sweat off the nutsack off that 80's masterpiece. While the movie wasnt terrible there really wasnt that many things about it that were charming or original either. It tried to a romantic funny drama but didnt really succeed and any of those things. I didnt really care for Charlie's character or his interaction with his girlfriend. The only character I liked were the bully partner he had and the principal played wonderfully as always by Robert Downey Jr.
The movie is basically about this loner rebel rich kid that keeps getting kicked out of private schools so finally he has to go to a public one. He finally gets an idea to sell his medication to kids and starts giving them psychiatric advice that he learns from his own shrink. He finally befriends the school bully, makes him a partner and becomes the most popular kid in school. He joins the drama team and starts dating the principals daughter. The Principal is an ex alcoholic (whoa what a stretch for Robert Downey!) that doesnt like Charlie but realizes deep down he's a good kid. It has a cliched happy ending and I was ready for it to end.
This movie just wasnt my cup of tea. I can see how some people like it but I cant really see an argument for loving it. On a scale of 1-10 I give it a drunk toy boat shooting 5.1 out of 10.
