Ghost Son Movie Review
I found myself torn with this movie. On one hand im not a big fan of supernatural horror movies but on the other hand recently ive been freaked out by babies in horror movies. Last year two of my favorite horror movies First Born and Inside had a baby theme in common. Also I was curious to see this movie cuz it was directed by Lamberto Bava son of famous Italian giallo director Mario Bavo and also director of two of my favorite cheesy horror movies of the 80's: Demons 1 and Demons 2. One thing I can say is Lamberto definitely has improved as a director. The pacing of a movie of this type was spot on and it had solid cinemotography. Not to mention it also stars hottie Laura Harring and the always solid Pete Postlethwaite.
The plot involves a newly wed couple living in Africa and the husband is in a fatal car crash. The woman decides to stay in Africa with the help of a young teenage maid. She starts to see visions of her dead husband and she mysteriously ends up pregnant with his baby. The ghost spirit of her husband wants to take her life so she can join him for eternity. Once she has the baby he starts to work through the baby.
There are some creepy sequences with the baby walking and talking. Theres also a great breast feeding scene thats right up the alley of old school Lamberto. The ending was a little flat and kinda anticlimatic. The movie pretty much stayed in a realistic type vibe instead going over the top with flying objects and spinning heads while I kinda liked but was a little bland. I did enjoy it but it lacked something to take it over the top. For baby and supernatural horror fans I give it a recommendation but overall It was a little bland for my tastes. On a scale of 1-10 I give it a solid baby spewing 5.8 out of 10.
