Resident Evil 5 Controversy
Im sure by now everyones heard of the controversy that Resident Evil 5 trailer has recently stirred up. Heres the link of the original Kym Platt blog post that started it all. For those to lazy to click there heres what it says:

The new Resident Evil video game depicts a white man in what appears to be Africa killing Black people. The Black people are supposed to be zombies and the white man’s job is to destroy them and save humanity. “I have a job to do and I’m gonna see it through.” This is problematic on so many levels, including the depiction of Black people as inhuman savages, the killing of Black people by a white man in military clothing, and the fact that this video game is marketed to children and young adults. Start them young… fearing, hating, and destroying Black people.
Thats got to be one of the most ridiculous responses Ive heard to any video game trailer. Let me break it down line by line. She first states that it "depicts a white man in what appears to Africa killing black people." No, It actually appears the white man is killing BLACK ZOMBIES!!! Next she says "The Black people are supposed to be zombies and the white man’s job is to destroy them and save humanity." No the Black people ARE zombies and it is the hero of the game's job to destroy them. Next she states: "This is problematic on so many levels, including the depiction of Black people as inhuman savages, the killing of Black people by a white man in military clothing, and the fact that this video game is marketed to children and young adults." No your response is problematic on so many levels including your misstatement that this game is marketed to children. This game is a mature rated game so it will be clearly marked that its not intended for children. She then finally states "Start them young… fearing, hating, and destroying Black people." One last time they are ZOMBIES not BLACK people and there is no fear or hate being taught against any particular race. Obviously she is ignorant of video games or is just trying to stir up the pot. First the game is made by Capcom which is a Japanese owned company and not by white people. The other 4 games it was primarily white people killing other white zombies. Was there any problem when it was that way? The game has nothing to do with race. Im sick and tired of some minority groups or individuals crying that everything thats under the sun has some sort of racist intent.
Speaking of racism in America believe me it is widespread among all races. Im a white southern boy from Texas and Ive experienced racism on several different occasions. Example #1 I was at a basketball court with a few friends when I was in high school. I parked my car within 10 feet of the outdoors court with no fence. Me and a few friends all played on the opposite side of the court away from my car. After an hour or so when it was time to go home, I approached my car and there was massive damage done to it. You can tell that someone backed up into my vehicle. The whole front right quarter panel and passenger door was smashed. Do i think it was on purpose? No not at all because it would have had to damage the other car also. Within 5 feet of my car was about 5 black guys waiting to play on the court. On the court itself on the near side to my car was about another 10 black guys playing. When I asked if they knew who did this. They either laughed, looked down and a few even said "naw we dont who did it." When it was obvious that it would have made a loud sound and all of them would have been aware. I knew none of the kids or had any beef with them so the only motive they would have had to not tell me was because we were a bunch of white kids.
Example #2. I dated this mexican chick for awhile but she never introduced me to her parents. I always picked her up around the corner of her house. She finally told me that her Dad hated white boys. One day when I knew she was home I went by to see her. Her Dad answered the door and lied and said she wasnt there. Once again he said that why? Just like she admitted it was because I was white! The examples dont even end there. I dont want to mention how many times me and my old friend Jerry almost got into fights and been called all kind of racist names while I went to play some pickup basketball at a local college basketball court here in Austin. None of them knew either of us but that didnt stop them from talking trash or trying to stop us from playing with them. This had nothing to do with skill level cuz my friend was pretty good at playing and he was even dissed because we were White! As sad as it is racism still exists and will continue to exist as long as people live and breathe. It has gotten a lot better in most ways and worse in others. One major problem that I see is that some minority groups want not just equal rights but they want superior rights over whites. People need to keep in mind that whites outnumber Blacks and Hispanics in America still by over a 6 to 1 margin. So any jobs or positions that are available should at most be proportionate to that ratio instead of an equal 1 to 1 that a lot of people push for. Yes there are still many white racists, but its not inclusive to the race.
Right now im happily blowing away white zombies on Resident Evil 4 on the Wii, and next year Ill be happily blowing away black zombies also.
