Long Distance Dvd Review
Im getting tired of movies rehashing the same type of twist endings that have done before. Basically this is kind of like a different version of Identity which in turn that was a variation of the Fight Club twist. The movie had a lot of stuff to like and it even invoked a Argento giallo type of feel throughout the movie that I liked a lot. Monica Keena was decent as the neurotic potential victim and the other actors were also adequate.
The plot is basically about a chick that accidentally calls a wrong number and then after she realizes it she calls the correct number and talks to her mom about her recent man problems. After a few minutes someone reads the caller id at the wrong number and calls Monica back. Monica apologizes for calling the wrong number and the guy on the other end reveals he has just killed the women at the location he was calling from. Every night the killer travels around the country killing women while he calls Monica to listen in on it. Finally there is a cop that gets assigned to the case and he stays with Monica so they can trace the call and find the killer.
There is only one intense scene where they realize the killer is at the mothers house and they try desperately on the phone to warn her. Other than that one scene there is no real tension built and not even any jump scares to tide you over. The movie had potential but fell flat on its face. If it wasnt for the been there done that before ending I would have rated it higher. At least the ending was more plausible than the one done in High Tension. I recommend seeing Identity instead which was a more entertaining movie with a very similar payoff. Overall I would give it a 6.5 on a scale of 1 -10.
