Fantastic Film Festival Movie Review
Blood Trails
I have mixed feelings about this movie. I did enjoy it but im also a slasher lover cuz its by far my favorite subgenre of horror. To casual horror fans or non slasher lovers i dont think this would be their cup of tea. The movie is shot very well and it had a Wolf Creek type of style and tone to it. The actors were slightly amateurish but adequate. The main chick was very good but her face with covered in blood half the movie and she does looked like she was tapped a few times with the ugly stick. The only reason im mentioning this is cuz half the movie is close ups of her face and her reactions.
The plot is this chick and her b/f who apparently are having relationship troubles agree to go on a trip to go bike riding. Shes feeling guilty about cheating on him a few days earlier with a cop. The cop is obsessed with her tracks her and b/f down and kills him in cold blood in front of her. All this happens within the first 15 minutes. So the killer is known right off the bat so theres no mystery to it. He plays cat and mouse with her the rest of the movie, killing anyone that gets in the way. He has ample opportunity to get her but he stays back and plays with her. The ending surprised me cuz i thought it was going to go the cookie cutter route but it stayed away from it.
The movie wasnt bad, it just was short of doing enough to put it over the hump to make it great. Maybe a few more deaths, scares or a better soundtrack could have put it over but it lacked something. The direction and cinematography were professional and it was adequately acted. It even did a decent job of making you believe the killer actually cared for her and was not in it just for the thrill of the hunt. Definitely recommend checking it out once its out on dvd.
