Fantastic Film Festival Movie Review
Frostbite
It looks like 3rd times the charm. I finally saw a fun entertaining flick here at the festival. Frostbite is a charming Swedish horror comedy about vampires. It has a cool 80's Lost Boys with a dash of Fright Night type of vibe. It is mainly horror oriented with some good comedic breaks in between.
The movie starts off in WW2 in the winter with a few soldiers that get stranded from their company and they have to hold up in an abandoned house. Unknowing to them it is inhabited by vampires they attack and kill them off. It fast forwards to present day Sweden? and the story follows a mother and daughter who move into a new town and start to acclimate. It is during their month long winter night period that seems to be so popular to base a story in nowadays. The mother gets a job as a doctor at the local hospital and the daughter starts attending high school. At the hospital is a famous doctor who quickly becomes suspicious as he primarily just attends to one particular patient daily. The daughter befriends this weird girl at school who invites her to a party a few of her friends are having. One of the young interns who is also friends with the high school kids gets ahold of these special pills he steals from the famous doctor. Basically the pills slowly turn you into a vampire. The boy start to have super sight, hearing and can communicate with dogs. The dog scenes are all hilarious. From this point on the movie kicks in to high gear and the vampire pills get distributed at the party and then chaos ensues. Their are some great scenes with the police and then finall the mother and head vampire have a confrontation. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie even though not 100% original but it was interesting enough to have me entertained the whole time. The ending is a little abrupt but still satisfying. I definitely recommend it and it was a great surprise. Hopefully this will get some dvd distribution sometime soon.
