Takishi Miike. What a freak. But fortunately hes one of those likeable freaks instead of a sick 1000 lb skinless goathorned circus freak who makes you sick to your stomach. Well some of his stuff makes you sick too but damn hes entertaining. Ill admit im a huge fan overall of his but i definitely do not like everything he does. Audition, Happiness of the Katakuris, Ichi the Killer are all great but he also has turds like Izo and Gozu.
This is one of those movies i enjoy but im reluctant to recommend this to anyone due to what i might be thought of once its watched. This is overall in my opinion his sickest movie to date. Maybe its the bathtub scene and what happens prior to it or maybe its because the dad wants to bang his own daughter. Is it maybe the milk sucking the family gets from mama? Miike loves his breasts and milk, it seems to be a prevalant theme in a lot of his movies.
My take on the movie is its an exaggerated view of a dysfunctional family and the current Japanese society. It starts off with the Dad watching his daughter strip down and tease him sexually. Thats just the beginning. The Dad gets raped by a microphone while attempting to get a news scoop and thus hes so ashamed of his life. His son is a puss at school but at home hes the boss and beats down his drug addict mom and tells her what to do. Visitor Q, whom i believe to be a twisted guardian angel meets up with the Dad and forces him take him home to live w/ the family. From that point on more mayhem ensues. More beatings, firecrackers thrown through the windows of the house, sick sex scenes, breast feeding and a whole lot more.
The acting is excellent and its shot digitally giving it a documentray style look to it. Not sure if i completely understand it but i get the jest of what hes trying to say. If you like Miike at all or want to see something completely over the top then i suggest you to go rent it.
