Hotel Reservations
I use to do hotel reservations for a few years for a major chain. This is just a quick suggestion for anyone thats wanting some cheap rates but still at a quality hotel. When you call in to do a phone reservation just keep in mind a few things. Unless its a busy time due to a holiday or special event the hotel usually has a few "special" rates that could apply. Some you just have to press and ask for, and some you have to ask by for a specific name. Basically you just have to ask for the rate and once it is given ask if there are any specials they have that you could get. If that doesnt work then try asking "Are there any special rates that you have that you have to ask for by a specifc name"? Unless the rep is a total dick or is afraid they are being monitored most are happy to get a sale and they will offer the rate to you. I dont know if this works on motels you cheap bastards. Whatever you do dont try to get a group or convention rate unless you are actually attending. They will check the list when you go to check in and up the rate to the "rack" (most expensive) rate if you arent on it. Try calling the national number instead of the hotel itself, you probably will have a better chance of getting the specials from a non hotel employee.
