Music Review
I love music. It used to be my first love as far as entertainment goes. In the past 5 years or so my love for video games and movies have swallowed it up. Ill admit a huge part of it is becuase games and movies keep getting better or stay the same at least and with a few exceptions music just keeps getting worse. A lot worse. So when there are a few groups who are around and still worthy of recommending im going to pimp them as hard as i can. Actually these two bands have been around for a long time in one form or the other but still have current kick ass albums to their belt. Stavesacre's new 2006 studio album How to Live with a Curse is probably overall my least favorite album from them but still better than 90% of the garbage out there. I know you are asking who do they sound like but they are a little hard to describe. The first few albums Friction and Absolutes have a definite Tool influence and then the last three albums Speakeasy, Stavesacre self titled and How to Live with a Curse are more emo and moody but still with a lot of distortion. What sets this band apart? Two words. Mark Solomon or King Solomon as long time fans of his call him. He was previously the lead singer of the underground metal thrash band the Crucified. His voice is so unique and full of power and grace. When he has to he can yell and shout his convictions from the bottom of his lungs or he can calm it down and convey a serene message. The dude is phenomenal live. He has stage presence out his A*& and you can see he puts it all on his sleeve for all the audience to see.
Next up is Celldweller aka Klayton Scott. This dude has been around perfecting his craft for well over a decade now. He was the frontman for one of the greatest metal industrial bands ever in Circle of Dust. He has also collaborated and performed with such bands as prong, Level and Klank. He has one of the greatest industrial side projects ever with the self titled album of Argyle Park. He even does the music for super magician Criss Angel. Criss sings while Klay provides the music for their band Angel Dust. Never resting or stayting content with one particular style he has evolved with the times yet staying uniquely fresh. His newest music is still guitar based industrial but also has techno, house, jungle and all kinds of modern influences. The dude can and does it all. He has a band live but on album he pretty much does it all. Keyboards, drums, guitar and vocals. Celldweller has one ep and one current album self titled Celldweller. That album freaking rules. Some of the songs were on Constatine, Spiderman 2 and other soundtracks while several of his songs are licensed out for tv shows. I highly recommend both groups and encourage you to check them or at least limewire them for further listen. You never know they just might end up being your new favorite band.
