Drag Me To Hell Movie Review
Directed by Sam Raimi
Starring Alison Lohman, Justin Long and Lorna Raver
Sam Raimi is officially back! With this movie he has whipped it out and dick slapped all the wannabe horror directors out there and showed them how its done. Great pacing, solid story, effective tension and scares and a terrific music score on top of that. I was very hesitant when I first heard that it was going to be pg-13 but I gotta admit it definitely felt like an R rated movie. Theres not really any gore or graphic scenes but there is tons of gross out scenes with bodily fluids and maggots that hit home perfectly. Probably the strongest part of the movie is the humor mixed in with these sickening scenes. I cant really think of any scene in the movie that didn't work. As far as acting Alison Lohman was solid, Lorna Raver the gypsy was creepy as fuck, and Justin Long was funny as hell (pun intended), and just plain kicked ass. The story was very simple but still very effective. I was happy there wasn't a lot of unnecessary back story told about the curse and how to stop it. The cinematography was awesome and there were a lot of cool classic Raimi camera shots. The only fault I can find is that a few shots the cgi was a little hokey. But that's a very minor (wifey/gf) nitpick that didn't take away from the experience at all. Oh yeah one more complaint. It ended and the credits rolled. I wanted the movie to fucking last another hour and a half. I give this the highest recommendation and encourage everyone to support this movie. Hopefully after Raimi finishes his work on Spider man he can get to work on more horror movies or maybe even Evil Dead 4? On a scale of 1-10 I give this a poor little kitty, 9.2 out of 10.
