The Children Movie Review
Directed By Tom Shankland
Available on region 2 dvd, region 1 (north america) release date is unknown.
Man its been too long since Ive seen a good little kid horror movie. Last year's The Substitute was cool but it was more about the evil teacher with the kids being the protagonists. This movie pure and simple is about whiny evil little fuckers.

The plot is about two sisters and their families that get together over the Christmas holidays. 4 of the little bastards are like 10 and under and there is one teenage girl. One of the kids gets some kind of weird virus and spreads it to the others. The virus makes the kids go psycho and they start trying to kill their elders one by one.
The first thing that popped out is the cool music. Even though its derivative of other stuff its still very atmospheric and fit the mood of the movie perfectly. Also the acting was pretty damn good. I know kids can be hard to direct and I thought the director did a great job of letting the kids be like kids instead of forced lines fed to them take after take. Overall the kids did a great job of looking and acting creepy. The little blonde boy I just wanted to kick in the face and the "leader" girl was just pure evil. The main chick of the movie was this cute little teenage girl. She also did a great job and had my favorite kill of the movie.
I thought the movie had a lot of suspense and it just had this chaotic feel to it with the kids always laughing, playing, screaming and crying, that just made it feel more tense. Yeah there are some plot holes that are big enough to swim through but it wasnt enough to take that much away from the experience. At first I thought theres no way these adults are going to have problems with fighting these little kids, but quickly I was convinced otherwise in the way it was portrayed. The strong male presence in the movie was taken out first so he couldnt help. The mom's had to struggle with the fact that they didnt want to hurt the kids and the other guy was a liberal little pussy that wasnt much help.
Even though there wasnt a lot of gore what they had was pretty solid. There were kills by impalement, a broken leg, crayon in the eye, and a bloody partially ripped off scalp. So all in all it was good fun. My only real complaint was the short running time. The movie did a great job of building up the characters at the beginning but when "the shit hit the fan", the rest of the movie went pretty quickly. I liked the ambiguous ending and it left open the definite possibility for a sequel.
I can easily recommend this movie and I hope it gets a release sometime soon here in the states. Hell if it was marketed right im sure it could make even some bank at box office. So on a scale of 1-10 I give this a weird fetus tattoo, 7.6 out of 10.
