I was literally one minute away from not having a review for this movie. When the movie first started it was blurry as hell. At first I thought it was my eyesight. I only drank two beers and a few tequila shots. After about 5 minutes I saw about 7 or 8 different people from different groups get up to go complain so I knew it wasnt just me. About the 15 minute mark it was still not fixed and I was about to leave and demand my money back, then the manager came out and apologized and promised to have the focus fixed and to restart the movie. Finally the movie started in focus.
I fucking love 3d movies. Every since I was a little boy and I saw Jason shoot the harpoon gun into that dudes eye socket, Ive loved it and never looked back. I went on to see Superman 3d, Jaws 3d, a few sci fi movies, some imax movies, some kung fu flicks, but its been a long time since I have seen a horror 3D movie in the theater.
Well was it any good? I have so many mixed feelings about it. The story itself is just your basic run of the mill slasher movie. The acting was decent, the dialogue was average, and had your obvious sequel leaning ending. Lets be honest the story was probably meant to be very secondary to the bloody kills and 3D moments. Overall I was happy with the 3D portion. Within 10 minutes the movie starts off with a bang with some gory kills such as a pick ax through the head-popping out the eyeball, a girl's head cut in half with a shovel and then a pick thrown through the air straight at the camera. I think it had a good balance of 3D moments and not too much overkill. If there is too much then it kind of desensitizes you for the really cool moments. I even enjoyed the non popping out 3D moments. With the new real 3d technology, even people walking around a room even pop out and look pretty cool.
If the movie was just a regular 2D slasher then I would probably rate it around a 6. I was just hoping the story would have been a little better or built up some kind of better connection with the characters, where I would actually care about them. Maybe I was expecting too much? There are some great bloody kills, fine chicks, and one chick that gets totally nude and runs around for a few minutes. Its definitely a hard R, like all horror movies should be. But since it is 3d and I love 3D, then I would rate this a bloody chocolate heart box 7.5 out of 10. Its still a decent score but I was expecting/hoping for at least an 8.5 out of 10 experience. If I knew that it was going to be released on dvd or Blu Ray with 3D glasses and you get the same experience, then I would just suggest to wait and rent it unless you are a huge 3D and horror fan as myself, then its probably worth the trip to the theater.
