Joy Ride 2 and Rest Stop 2 Movie Reviews
I was looking forward to both of these movies. I really enjoyed original Joy Ride 8/10 and I thought the original Rest Stop 6.5/10 was a servicable ghost slasher movie. I pretty much got what I was expecting from both of them.
Joy Ride 2
The movie starts off with Rusty Nail back as the maniac truck driver killing a prostitute in a cool beheading scene. Then it quickly flashes to two sisters on a road trip to Vegas with their b/f's. The girls seem normal, one b/f is your all American Paul Walker type and the b/f they pick up is this goth poser dude that likes to cause drama and make a scene. Their car breaks down and they steal a car from Rusty Nail's house. One girl leaves a note saying to call her when he gets home and they are just borrowing the car until they can get to a car rental place. Little do they know Rusty is already following them to a diner they stop at. Rusty kidnaps the one b/f and tells them they have to meet his demands if they want to see him back. Some of his demands are cutting off a finger and bringing it to him while the one chick strips down. They try to outsmart him but he's always one step ahead of them.
Overall I really enjoyed it and I liked how they showed a little more of Rusty's story. Most of the action occurs while in a car or his truck but there are a few scenes with Rusty and his victims at his house playing a torture game. There isnt a lot of gore but the few kills scenes (skull impaling and ripping jaw off with a chain) are top notch. The acting and directing were very good and the production looked a little better than your average std movie. Yes it has a cliched obvious type ending but I didnt think it hurt it that much. If you are a fan of the fan then I recommend checking this one out. Yes im sure there will be a Joy Ride 3.

Rest Stop 2
This one starts a year later after the first one ended. Even though I dont fully understand it, they do a good job with the back story involving that freak family from the rv. The film had a cool grainy gritty old school look that fit it perfect.
The story is basically about the brother of the guy from the original movie. He's back from Iraq and on a mission with his g/f and friend in search for his brother that no ones heard back from. They stop at the haunted rest stop from the first movie and thats when all hell breaks loose. The guy and truck kzl 303 is back. Yes this has some more torture gore but nothing thats too extreme. Both this movie and Joy Ride 2 have torture scenes that are short and to the point and nothing too excessive or boring. The ending for this one is pretty typical for your average ghost movie. Overall i do recommend it but only after you see the first one. Hardly anything will make sense if you dont. Yes im sure there will be a Rest Stop 3.

Both of these movies had the typical slasher scenes that we would expect, but you had to see the first installment to understand what was going on. I’d rate them both C+.
