Stuck Movie Review*repost from 08/06/2008
Directed by Stuart Gordon
Starring Mena Suvari and Stephen Rea
Availability: release date on dvd 10/14/2008I really like Stuart Gordon. Just his style and techniques he uses are just unique to him. I really like his older stuff such as Reanimator, Dolls, and The Pit and the Pendulum, but his newest movies , the "realism trilogy" as its called, King of the Ants, Edmond, and now Stuck are also very different, refreshing and cool. Out of the three, Stuck is definitely the most entertaining and my favorite.
The movie revolves around a white trash ghetto chick (Mena Suvari) thats on her way home from a club and hits a man ,(Stephen Rea) who's down on his luck and first night being an official bum. He goes crashing through the front window of her car in awesome old school Argentoish scene. She's high and panicked so she drives from the scene with him stuck in her windshield. She consider dropping him off at hospital or calling 911 but never does so she just parks her car in her garage at home. She finally gets her wanna be gangsta b/f to help her take care of him and the rest of the movie is the bum trying to get away and call for help.
Yep the movie had a decent amount of the good stuff. Im talking about titties and some good gore moments. The slo mo hit when his legs cracked, the windshield wiper in the side and the brain kill all had me cringing and smiling at the same time.
While the movie had a lot of obvious cliches such as several close calls of being discovered it still always felt fresh and had good pacing. The ending with an obvious set up still was pretty cool and had a bad ass revenge factor to it. Overall the acting was pretty solid besides some suspect moments from the gangsta b/f. Gordon did another solid job and I cant wait to see more from him in the future. On a scale of 1-10 I give this a frying pan to the face 7.9 out of 10.
