Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead Movie Review
*repost from 05/12/2008
Director: Lloyd Kaufman
Starring: zombie chickens
Availability: on dvd 10/28/2008
3 words. Lloyd Kaufman's masterpiece. I love Toxic Avenger and a select few troma movies for the goofy over the top fun they are but I never expected to put the words Lloyd Kaufman and masterpiece in the same sentence. You could tell he was going this direction in Toxic Avenger 4 with a bigger budget and ever more crude humor. You can take everything Lloyd has done so far and crank it up to 11 in absurdness. The gore is plentiful almost on par with Peter Jacksons Dead Alive. There are beheadings, broom shoved up an ass and comes out through the guys dick, testicles fried and eaten, brains cracked open and cooked as eggs, a face being sliced with a meat slicer and thats just all I can think of off the top of my head. I wouldnt call it a musical but there is about 5 songs in the movie that fit the tone perfectly. If you are squeamish at all or hate Troma movies then this movie will definitely not win you over.
The story is simple. There is a new franchise chicken place in Troma that is built on an ancient Indian burial ground. The spirits are restless and pissed and they possess the dead chickens and food in the restaurant. Anytime a customer eats the contiminated food they either hatch monster chicken eggs or they turn into a zombie chicken. Arby who is trying to win his g/f back from her new lesbian lover that is protesting the abuse of chickens with a mob outside of the restaurant, gets a job at the chicken shack. Their are some insane characters that work there such as a white trash chicken fucker, a crazy Arabian woman, a gay Mexican cook and a black ghetto manager. The rest of the movie they have to fight off the exploits of the evil chickens while the owner of the franchise comes for a visit so he can win over the mob and get positive publicity on the news.
There are some great musical numbers and some crazy fucking gore and jokes. Half way through the movie I had a huge grin on my face and I couldnt wait to see how they were going to top what they just did. Ive seen some great movies this year and one indicator of how much I like the movie is how soon I want to see it again. I could easily watch this again tonite, but Ill probably wait till one day I have a six pack ready to crack open and an hour and half to cringe and laugh my ass off. Only negative things I have to say is, I wish there were a few more musical numbers and I wished the chicks were a little hotter but if they were would it really be a Troma movie? Highest recommendation for any gore or Troma lovers. This should hopefully be released on dvd in the next few months. On a scale of 1-10 I give this a Indian corpse butt plug 8.9 out of 10.

Heres the trailer with medium spoilers
