The Cottage Movie Review
Directed by Paul Andrew WilliamsStarring Andy Serkis, Jennifer Ellison, Steve O'donell
Damn thats a shitty dvd cover. Kinda misleading. The movie is pretty much a black comedy in the vein of Severance or Shaun of the Dead. At least the first half of the movie is. I knew very little of this movie so I was pleasently surprised once I saw it. I think the movie is coming out in a month or so in the U.S. on dvd. Im a huge fan of this type of movie when its done right. I still think that Very Bad Things is the most evil sick movie Ive ever seen. I think the tone of that movie with the comedy thrown it make it even sicker than any gorefest ive ever seen.
The movie is about two fuck up brothers that kidnap a woman for ransom. The father of the kidnapped girl sends his son who is part of the scam to deliver the money. Also hot on the trail are two Asian thugs assigned to take care of the situation. Basically all hell breaks loose and they have to flee to a cottage that belongs to a mutated hellbilly farmer who enjoys killing people.
The first half of the movie I really enjoyed. There were some great comedic moments between the brothers and the dialogue of the Asian thugs was fucking hilarious. Then all of a sudden half way through the movie it turns into a slasher with a lot fewer laughs. The interaction between Andy Serkis (Gollum) and Steve O'donnell as brothers is believable and very funny. Also I give props for a great job by Jennifer Ellison for being a smart ass, tough, hot, hostage. The first half I highly enjoyed but the second half was too much cliched for me. There were some great moments of gore though. If this movie wasnt so inconsistent it would have ranked a lot higher. I still liked it enough to recommend it to fans of black comedies just be prepared for the slight let down of the second half. I give this a headbutt to the face 6.9 out of 10.
Heres hottie Jennifer Ellison
