Day of the Dead Movie Review
I was so skeptical before I saw this movie. I had heard of early screenings that said this movie was fucking terrible, and plus the movie is going straight to dvd instead of a theatrical release so I didnt have high hopes. Luckily those fuckers got it wrong. I had a blast watching this movie. Yes there is some bad acting, shoddy cgi and undercranking that was unnecessary and pissed me off but despite that I had a good time. Last year I saw exactly one "fun" zombie horror movie and that was the underrated Flight of the Living Dead. Fido was also good but it was more of a comedy/drama.
What it did get right was the look and feel of the zombies. These bastards are brutal, strong and relentless. I like traditional zombies and fast angry zombies but these were super strong, super leaping and just plain frightening. There was too much cgi and the undercranking (speeding up the film) was used too many times to convey a sense of speed but I could overlook that. Ving Rhames although in a short role was his usual great self. Mena Suvari was convincing as a soldier and Nick Cannon was actually tolerable. The others acting wasnt horrible but nothing great either. The fat ass d.j. did have a couple of funny lines and scenes though. The directing was solid also by Steve Miner, director of Friday the 13th part 2, and 3 fame.
The story is basically about this town of people that are being quarantined by the military. Some of the people all of a sudden become sick then eventually turn to zombies. One of the military soldiers (Mena) assigned to the zone is originally from this small town and she goes to find her brother and sister. She finds her mother is sick and takes her to the local hospital. Once she arrives the sick people turn and all hell breaks loose. From there a doctor and a few other soldiers escape and she goes to find her brother thats at the local radio station.
No the story is not great, original and it has all the flaws that I pointed out before but I dont give a damn. I strapped on and rode her for what she was. Im sure this movie is going to be one of those like it or absolutely hate it movies as indicated on imdb. So far it has 542 total votes and 106 give it a perfect 10 and 139 give the movie a 1. But for me, someone that loves zombie movies and dont take them too seriously, I give this a glass door shattering and running full speed zombie 7.9 out of 10.

heres the trailer

It Stars Hotties Mena Suvari and Christi Campbell
