Sebastian Bach - Angel Down (virgin review)
When I was checking out the new release section thinking of stuff to download I a came across this album. I almost forgot about the blonde screamer. I remember the glory days of Skid Row/Guns N Roses era and I knew I had to check it out. To change things up I thought it would be cool to write this review while im listening to this album track by track just based on first impressions.
1. American Metalhead- Pretty jamming intro song. High energy song very much in the vein of "Slave to the Grind" era Skid Row. I forgot how good a singer this dude actually is. A little short but good song.
2. Angel Down-Another high energy song with a cool chorus. The breakdown section is pretty weird with a funky bass line with a solo over it.
3. Back in the Saddle (Guest starring Axl Rose) Awesome song with Axl doing what he does best. Makes me wish Gnr never broke up. This is a very Rock/Metal song that sounds very similar to Gnr. Man the bassist from this band rules. He has some great bass lines throughout the song. Now im excited to hear Axl's new solo album coming out soon.
4. By Your Side-Old school acoustic 80's ballad. Yawn. Heard it before.
5. Falling into You- Another ballad but this one is a little better. Its a piano power ballad that reminds me of Aerosmith. Im getting restless. I need some more metal!
6. Live & Die - Started off pretty cool with some jamming riffs but got old pretty fast. I hate that the solos on the album are back in the mix.
7.(Love Is) A Bitchslap- Another old school rocking tune. Dated sounding but still pretty decent.
8. Negative Light- Cool bass intro. Hell yeah speed metal! By far the best song so far. Sounds similar to the recent Halford stuff.
9. Our Love Is A Lie- Mid tempo rocker. Im not feeling it. Next!
10. Stabbin Daggers- Once again great bass guitar. This tune sounds like a heavy Pearl Jam song to me. I dig it.
11. Stuck Inside- I just heard this song and already forgot it.
12. Take you Down With Me- I hate the puss vocals on most of the song. This album is best taken in small doses I guess. Im kinda getting burned out.
13. You Bring Me Down- slow to mid tempo jam. Its ok at best.
14. You Dont Understand- Sounds like an old school Stryper tune. The syrupy chorus, the twin leads, very dated but i love it.
Overall its an ok album, im sure most people would not like it but if you are a Skid Row/Sebastian Bach fan its worth checking out for the handful of good tunes. I'd probably listen to it a few more times but with my hand on the skip button.
* Now that ive done some research its no wonder the bass guitar kicks so much ass. The bassist is Steve DiGiorgio from Death, Autopsy, Control Denied, Testament, Vintersorg, Iced Earth, and Sadus.
