Reeker Dvd Review
For a straight to dvd movie this movie has had a lot of publicity. I remember a year ago at Fantastic Fest and even maybe back to Pedazo Chunk days seeing the little hand out cardboard flyers for this movie. It had pretty cool artwork and it had me intrigued so i was pretty stoked to finally get a chance to watch it. Unfortunately it did not live up to what i was hoping. Its another one of those movies whose twist ending would have been cool about 5 years ago but now its so ho hum. Thats a shame too because it did have a lot of cool elements to it and the design of the Reeker did kick ass.
Without giving away too much the movie is about a group of 5 kids that are on their way to a rave. They are also being tracked by a drug dealer who is after one of the kids that stole some E from his apartment. That are driving down some desert highway and their car runs out of gas. They stop at an abandoned motel for the night. Basically weird shit happens and they are being taken out one by one by some mysterious force. When the reeker shows it is preceded by a cool gas looking effect and the reeker design is a rad skeleton dude in a trench coat with a blender chopping extension for his hand. Half way through the movie you realize there are some supernatural things going on but nothing is really being explained. Even Michael Ironside shows up in a wasted role as a rv tourist that goes to the hotel for the night.
The main problem i had with the movie is the lack of tension or anything remotely scary. They are a few cool gory moments but nothing with a true scare. I do admit that the story is wrapped up nicely and everything does finally make sense during the big twist reveal. Its just too bad this type of thing has been done to death by now. On a scale of 1-10 I cant give this any higher than a half torso dragging 5.8 out of 10.

Luckily it does star the cute as hell Arielle Kebbel. Please give her more roles!!!
