Pre Fantastic Fest
Flight of the Living Dead aka Plane Dead Movie Review I'll be honest I wasnt expecting much from this. I thought it was going to be a C grade low budget rip off of Snakes on a Plane with zombies. Lo and behold what I watched was pure grade A entertainment! It might have been the most fun ive had watching a movie so far this year. Dont get me wrong its far from perfect but what it sets out to accomplish, it does so in spades. Directed by Scott Thomas and starring a bunch of no name actors who actually do a great job. The cgi wasnt quite up to "A" Hollywood standards but still way better than an average Straight to Dvd movie. The gore was top notch and most of all the airplane set was terrific. They took advantage of every compartment, nook and cranny of the airplane. Not sure if the layout of the plane was realistic or not but it looked believable to me.

The plot is based around a few shady scientists and villains who found a form of malaria that can regenerate someones life after they die(of course). They take a commercial flight because they are running from the government and are on course to go to Germany so they can do further testing without further government interference. In the cargo bay there is a cryogenically sealed case (coffin) that carries a female scientists who has been injected with the malaria. When the plane hits some terrible turbulence during a storm the coffin becomes open and out escapes the zombie. Of course she escapes and starts biting and infecting other passengers. None of this wouldn't work if there weren't some great passenger characters to either root for or against. You have a pair of jocks and their slutty girlfriends, a cop who is taking a white collar smart ass criminal back to jail, a black professional golfer (Tiger anyone?), an air marshall in disguise and some hot as hell flight attendants.

The makeup effects are great and go for more of the demon possessed look. The sound effects are awesome and help make the movie so much more sick and enjoyable. On the negative side there are some cheesy metal songs throw in during some action scenes and a few scenes of forced humor that just dont work. Those are all minor gripes and dont detract too much from the movie experience.

Overall I higly enjoyed it and I am looking forward to watching this again at Fantastic Fest in front of a packed audience. How this didnt get theatrical distribution and is going the route of straight to dvd is beyond me. For any zombie fans or fans of a popcorn/gore entertainment experience I advise to go seek this out and soon as its released on dvd in October. On a scale of 1-10 I give this a yellow demon eyed zombie munching 8.4 out of 10.

Heres some pics of two of the hotties onboard

Heres the trailer but it does have some spoilers
