Haunted Highway Dvd Review
What do you get when you get an Asian director that tries to a low budget Asian style ghost movie with horrible American actors and one horrible Japanese actress. Yep you get Haunted Highway. I think the cover art pictures and color scheme look pretty cool, but that is definitely the highlight of this movie. I cant even begin to tell you how bad the actors and script were. There were several scenes that were painfully awkward and just didnt make any sense at all. The script wasnt completely horrible but the directing and acting took it to a different level. Dont get me wrong it wasnt the worst std horror movie ive seen, even recently, but im being pretty hard on it due to the fact that it could have been a lot better than it was.
The story is about this photographer dude that is having an affair with a Japanese model and when his wife confronts him they get into a struggle and he accidentally kills her. To cover up the murder he rolls his wife up in a blanket, throws her in the trunk and heads for the lake to bury her body. As he drives down the highway, weird occurrences, ghosts of his dead wife and a ghost of his new Japanese girlfriend appear to f with his mind. Its never really explained if all this was in his head, or why/how the ghosts appeared. The movie does a good job with the flashback scenes with his wife and g/f that help fill in the holes but the acting is so horrible by all involved it just throws you out of the movie. The Japanese model played by Hinano Yoshikawa was the worst offender. It literally seemed like right before she gave her lines an interpreter on the set must have told her how to say the words in English. Her accent, performance, is easily one of the worst ive ever seen in any movie. Greg Ross played by Rand Gamble was not strong enough to carry this type of role. His idea of being scared, nervous, etc... was to make a bug eyed face and have sweat constantly on the back of his neck.
The movie had one or two decent moments but not near enough to warrant watching this movie. If you like a good ghost road movie then I suggest renting Dead End which is a much better movie. On a scale of 1-10 I give this a sleep inducing 4.0 out of 10.
