I friggin love zombies movies even though a great majority of them suck so much ass. Its my second favorite type of horror right below slasher flicks. I knew this movie was going to blow but I was hoping it would have some kind of fun factor such as Leprechaun in the Hood or Tales from the Hood. Unfortunately its just bad, with only a few scenes that weren't cliche or had some good gore. The only actor I recognized is Noel Gugliemi who does a great job playing the same role he always does, which is the angry cholo gang dude. Of course it had a minimal budget but the warehouse set piece was pretty good for the most part. There was some cgi but most of it was practical effects.
The movie is basically about a meteor that hits an urban area of some big city and the radiation infects all the bums and turns them into zombies. One thing Ill never understand how zombies turn all "Hulk" green in a lot of these std horror movies. The meteor also conveniently affects all the radio and cellphone waves in the area which in turn hinders any kind of communication for the band of survivors. After the people are zombified they attack the warehouse during a drug bust. After all is said in done, a few cops, a lawyer, some latino and black gang members are all trapped in the warehouse together fighting for their life. Of course no one gets along and the main cholo attempts to take control of the situation. Most of it is predictable with the exception of one scene which totally surprised me. The movie drags on way too long and the characters are so thinly written you dont care for any of them. Most of the acting is passable with the exception of a teenage girl who acts like a 9 yr old, and gets so annoying.
This movie falls into the category of Im glad I saw it since im a zombie completest but I cant recommend it to anyone in the least bit. For everyone else go rent "Dawn of the Dead" (original), or Return of the Living Dead for a much better zombie fix. On a scale of 1-10 I give this an intestine munching 3.3 out of 10.
Spoiler-Coolest Scene of the movie
