Rant of the Week
Nielsen ratings suck!
Someone has to come up with a better way of determing ratings. There are less than 5,000 people who are used to sample the whole U.S. of A. (99 million homes with t.v.'s) Have you ever known anyone that participates in this? I never have in my 32 years! I dont know how many times a great T.V. show i saw was cancelled within weeks or months after starting even though I talked to several people at work who liked it also. It seems we are getting closer to a better solution with Arbitron's P.P.M. (Personal People Meter) which is basically a device that is attached to you and when it picks up a inaudible code it tracks the information of what you are watching on tv or movies, radio programs or even what store you shop in. For instance Minute Maid Park in Houston and Best Buy participate so when someone who wears the ppm enter in their place the code is picked up and later that night the information gets sent to a data base once its put back into its cradle for the night. And or if this becomes the direction advertising is going we still have to put up with Nielsen and all the inaccurate ratings that determine what we get to see.
