Black Sheep Movie Review
This movie does not star Chris Farley and David Spade but it sure would have been cool as hell if it did. This is the new school New Zealand black (pun intended) comedy by director Jonathan King. Very reminiscent of the comedy gorefests Braindead aka Dead Alive by Peter Jackson and
James Gunn's Slither. While it is nowhere near the brilliance of Dead Alive I found it overall as enjoyable as Slither. Probably since it is also based in New Zealand it had the feel of an independent movie such as Bad Taste or even the Spiereg brothers the Undead.
What is the movie about? Plain and simple its about some infected sheep on a farm that turn ravenous and either A. kill you or B. bite you and turn you into a human/zombie sheep. The story is about two brothers whose fathers dies at the beginning of the movie. The younger brother is scarred for life because at the time of the news of the death he is being teased by his older brother wearing a dead sheep carcass. He becomes deathly afraid of sheep and moves away from the farm. The older brother turns the farm into an experimental lab in hopes of making the ultimate sheep. Their is a big break through and the older brother is going to announce the ultimate sheep has been made to the press. The younger brother comes back home to collect his share of the money? I think because its never made clear why he came back. While this is going on some Peta lovers steal a vial of nasty looking fetus gunk from the scientists that are going to bury the evidence. The vial breaks open and an infected hairless sheep bites and infects a man and a sheep, and thus the carnage starts.
The movie takes place over just a few hour time span during one day and the script is very basic. Some of the humor is hit or miss and the actors vary from bad to average. The one strong thing it has going for it are the fx. The cgi is done by Weta which once again proves they are at the top of the game and even all the practical effects are even well done. The movie has been released for a few months now overseas and the release date for the US of A is June 22,2007 in a limited release. If you are a gore comedy lover then im sure you'll be all over it and if you're not then this movie will definitely not win you over. Overall on a 10 point scale i'd give it a Solid 7.4
