Open Water 2 Dvd Review
This review totally depends on how you viewed Open Water 1. If you liked part 1 then you probably will like this one and if you were bored by the first then im sure you will nodding off half way through this one. I thought the first one was ok and had a lot of redeeming values even though it was a little slow. I personally prefer the sequel overall. Its really a sequel in name only since it is totally different characters but it did keep the low budget non hollywood feel which was refreshing.
The story is about a group of 6 friends 3 male, 3 female and a little baby that go on a sailing trip on a yacht owned by Eric Dane (McHotty/Mark from Grey's Anatomy). The mother of the baby is afraid of water since you had something tragic happen to her when she was a little girl. Basically the friends go swimming and by Eric Dane's mistake they have no ladder to climb back onboard. The scenario seems a little implausible but supposedly this is not rare and a few experts that have seen the movie even claim that it is near impossible to climb back aboard the yacht and the movie was easily believable.
The actors were likable, the dialogue was adequate, and the movie did give a great feel and sense of desperation. There is one scene in the movie which shows the perspective of the camera looking from below the actors and you can see the orange sky and a aircraft flying over that is absolutely gorgeous. Easily my favorite shot of the movie.
The friends try different methods of getting aboard the boat including a clothes rope, climbing up a knife and other things. Without revealing too much there is blood from a cut, a skull fracture and of course people giving up and drowning. I enjoyed the movie a little better than the first one including the head scratching ambiguous ending.
