Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
I love Anime and animated movies but i dont have the time and patience for a series. As far as a stand alone movie the Vampire Hunter D sequel is currently my all time favorite. Fire and Ice is a close second but thats for another day. The original Vampire Hunter D is pretty cool but not near as good as the sequel Bloodlust.
"D" is a dunpeal which is a half human/half vampire mix which is also what Blade is. Usually dunpeals are weaker than pure vampires but "D" is actually stronger because his daddy is Dracula. He rides a bio mechanical horse and in the palm of his left hand is a smartass living entity with its own face that talks to D and has magical powers. His primary weapon is a sword but with his hand he can also suck like Monica, heal, have psychic abilities, induce sleep and other cool things. The story takes place in a post apocalyptic earth in the year 12000 a.d. with a western type setting and where humans, vampires and different mutants rule the earth.
It starts with a powerful vampire named Meier Link steal a human woman named Charlotte while riding through a town and he's going to take her back to his castle. The father hires a bunch of vampire hunters named the Marcus Brothers to help bring her back. He also decides to hire D to bring her back also. So the movie is a competition between D and the hunters to race to save the girl and bring her back to her father. On the way they encounter a circus of monsters that they fight and also some super henchmen that Meier Link sicks on them. The movie is full of awesome beheadings, impalements and other cool deaths. It ends with a spectacular final battle at the castle.
The animation is awesome which looks part traditional and part anime influences. It has a great symphonic score and the audio is in 5.1 digital which is kicking. Definitely one of my favorite scores from any horror movie in general. This movie is anime at its finest. Ive seen it several times and cant wait for another sequel. Not only is the action kick A$% but the plot and story is actually good. 9.6
Heres an trailer (AMV) someone cut to Perfect Circle's "Rose"
