ken parkDvd Review
A lot of people think Larry Clark is nothing but a pedophile. I dont know if he is but all of his movies so far have been interesting and starred legal age kids (borderline probably), so technically he cant be one. Maybe a sicko but not an official "pedo" so far. Bully was ok and Kids was good but this is my favorite of all his films so far. Easily his most controversial film to date as the cover indicates above, is the movie Ken Park. Its not available in the U.S. as of yet but i think it has picked up a distributor. So far its only available in Pal on a Russian disc, which you can pick up through Ebay or Amazon or you can rent it here at this awesome site.
The movie basically follows the lives of a 4 dysfunctional teens in suburbia California. Shawn (James Bullard) is cheating on his teenage g/f with her own mother. The interaction between Shawn and the mother is probably my favorite part of the whole movie. The things he says and does, i completely see actually happening. The next kid Claude (Stephen Jasso) has an alcoholic step dad and a wussy pregnant mother that he has to deal with. Tate (James Ransone) is a disturbed kid who lives with his grandparents and just totally hates his life. He also likes to whack it while he chokes himself. That is the most graphic scene in the whole movie by far. Last is Peaches (Tiffany Limos) who has a religious nut dad but she loves to explore sex with her friends and b/f.
Not really any purpose to the movie except maybe to show the degradation of the youth culture of today. Tate's character is a little over the top but i could easily see the other characters being a true representation of whats going on in America currently. The only real negative i could see is like American Beauty it infers that all anti-homo ( i dont use the word homophobia cuz its not a true representation) people are just closet homo's themselves. Other than that it was quite enjoyable in sick perverted type of way. Very hard to find but definitely worth it if you like something edgy or enjoyed Bully and Kids at all.
